I have a 07 Chevy Cobalt. I have tried this without sucess, I am confuse about what you wrote. “Press and hold the DOOR unlock switch.
While holding the DOOR lock switch in the unlock position, cycle the ignition ON, OFF, ON, OFF.”
Is this on the key fob, or in the car? and how do you hold the lock and unlock at the same time? Is there a time frame to wait? Can you be a little more clear about this section please?

I have a pair of ’03 Chevy’s. At some point in the past the dealership programmed one of the remotes for both vehicles. This is unfortunately the remote that my wife uses for her Tahoe. Every time she unlocks it the aftermarket alarm in my Avalanche goes off if I don’t remember to disarm it first. You can probably just imagine how annoying this can get. Is there a way to clear the programming on a remote so that it DOESN’T work in a particular vehicle?

My 2001 Chevy Malibu GM owners manual has incomplete instructions on how to program (re-synchronized.) the key fob. It only mentioned pressing the lock and unlock buttons on the fob for 5 sec. near the vehicle and that the doors would lock and unlock to confirm it was re-synchronized.

After reading the manual again carefully several times, I concluded there has to be more to the process otherwise you could easily do this other vehicles.

Anyway thanks for the more complete explanation.

i tried this on my 06 escalade , and it worked but the only differance was i had to hold down the lock and unlock buttons on the fob at the same time for 30 seconds instead of alternating the buttons for 30 seconds, try that.

On the Impala, you have to get to the setting menu, which requires putting the car on ACC and holding the display button, One settings comes up use the PREV and NEXT buttons to scroll to FOB PROG then select, then scroll to begin and select. I don’t recall the rest from memory but it should be in your manual

I should have thought of it myself since I tried to short out the contacts on the board — which the rubber buttons usually do — with a screwdriver head and the buttons worked unlocking, locking doors and opening the trunk. My key fob stopped working months ago!!! Now that we’re seeing temps in single digits I’m under pressure to fix it…so I turned to google…I read a few forums and found a few answers…this programming trick didn’t work for me, HOWEVER, this is what I did and it WORKED! )

I took my remote apart and placed aluminum foil in the button slots between the rubber and the transmitter…it was as simple as that! FREE! Saved me 200 at the dealer!!! Apparently, the rubber just wasn’t making good contact!

Hi, I have a question. My mom recently purchased a 2002 g-am repo, and I’m not sure if it came with keyless entry or alarm. It has power everything and came with just 1 key that open all locks. Is there any way for me to tell? She is 80 yes 80 and always liked sports cars. The lock switch has also started to act up and I find myself fearing for her safety. Any info would be appreciated. Just FYI, if any of you buy a used car without a key fob
I used to sell Chevs at a new dearlership and we had a filing cabinet drawer full of key fobs from various makes and models that all I had to do if I sold a used car w/out a fob was spend 10 mins trying to find a match. and gave it to them free, ask ur sales person the same they might have adrawer full of them as well

You might want to make sure the fob will work with the impala. There are numbers on the back of the fob and you will need to make sure it is compatible.

1. Close all vehicle doors.

2. Insert the key into the ignition.

3. Hold down the power UNLOCK button on the driverâ€™s door panel-continue to hold
down until instructed to release in step 9.

4. Perform steps 5 through 8 in fairly rapid succession.

5. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (as far as you can go without starting the
engine).

6. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.

7. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

8. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.

9. Release the power unlock button on the door panel. The vehicle will lock and unlock
the doors automatically.

10. Hold down the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the transmitter simultaneously until
the door locks and unlocks.
This step may take up to 30 seconds.

11. Repeat step 10 NOW for each additional transmitter (including any existing
transmitters).

12. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position in order to exit the transmitter programming
mode.

I just checked and tried the jumping the connections on my car (’08 Grand Prix). Well, I say tried … I have a conenctor in Pin 4 but there isn’t one in pin 8.
Any thoughts on what pins would be used in this case?

I didn’t write it down so I’m not sure on this BUT I think there are connectors for pins 2,4,5,6 in the first row and then 9, 15,16 in the second.

2001 Chevy Suburban z71. Everything works until I press lock and unlock at the sime time on the remotes. Here is what I am doing. I am putting the key in with all the doors shut, I hold down the unlock button turn the key to the on off position two times, let go of the unlock position, the doors lock and unlock, I then hold down the lock and unlock button on the transmitters but nothing happens. I have two remotes with part numbers 15053968 and 15008008. What am I doing wrong that it is not programming?

Hi, I just bought a 2005 Yukon SLT. It only came with one key fob. I got another one from the dealer (no charge to me) but it isn’t programmed. I have a 2004 Chevy Classic 4 Cyl. Need to program a new Key Fob. The vehicle was purchased without one. It has pins 2-4-5 & 16 on the ALDL DLC connection. Following the forums this pin configuration is for a J1850 VPW communication protocol. Is there any pin jumper method for programming key fobs that will work for this type of communication connection? I have seen the pin jumper method that was given as jumping pin 8 to pin4 for programming the key fob but my vehicle does not have pin 8. If you can help, MANY, MANY Thanks.

You need to remember it isn’t GM that is charging you $150. to reprogram it is the private Business you elected to go to.
Find a dealer you can trust not to rip you off or dont complain.

It worked on my 03 Silverado, but there was one additional step that I discovered accidentally. After cycling on-off-on-off, the doors locked and unlocked but the fob wouldn’t program until I put the key back into the on position. Hope this helps, thanks for the great tip!

Easy fix:
1. Locate the Data Link Port. It is located under dash drivers side. Be sure you know which pins are 8 and 4.

2. Make sure there are metal contact pins in terminals 8 and 4. Connect 8 to 4 with a suitable
jumper wire (leave the jumper wire connected throughout the programming procedure). Make
sure you know which terminals are 8 and 4. The vehicle will respond by locking and unlocking the
doors to signify entering of programming mode.

3. Press and hold both the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons together on the first transmitter to be
programmed. After about 15 seconds, the vehicle will respond by locking and unlocking the doors.
Release the buttons on the transmitter.

4. Within one minute, repeat the previous step on the remaining transmitters to be programmed.

5. Remove jumper wire applied to the OBDII Port.

Do the #’s on the back of the FOB’s have to match? I purchased them from Ebay but the instructions above are not working for my 05 Chevy Uplander. Has anyone else tried to program an 05 Uplander?

FYI guys, when they say that a given car & fob must be “programmed by the dealer”, I believe what they are really saying is, “on this model, instead of the on/off/on/off trick, we designed it so that you must jump 2 pins on the ALDL/DLC, and we don’t want average morons messing with that.”

On my ’97 Riviera, you simply make a small jumper wire (even a paperclip would probably do) and jump Pin 8 to Pin 4 on the Data Line Connector under the left side of the dash, where scan-tools are hooked up… Then you turn the key on, hold down your buttons on each transmitter, and remove the jumper.

I can’t guarantee it, so no warranty is implied or granted, but given the limitations on the pin assignments by the OBD-II standards, I would think that all the GM’s that need the jumper wire trick would use the same two pin numbers…

All done in less than 3 minutes on 2003 Suburban LT
for 2 fobs. “Time is closer to 20 seconds for response to each programming authentication/confirmation locking. When you exit programming by turning on key switch the horn beeped once”

I would get on ebay and purchase the fobs from there. They are usually $20-$30 per fob. You can actually program new fobs in your Grand Prix info center. Those fobs should work IF they are from 04-08? Impala. Good Luck!

went to the dealer today with 2 fobs from an impala I have an 06 grand prix they told me after they charged me 60.00 that the fobs are incompatable and that i need new transmitters for the old ones at over 200.00 each are they trying to sell me something I don’t need any help or suggestions would be appriciated

I tried this on a 2002 Grand Am and was not able to enter the programming mode. When you say to cycle the key On/Off/On/Off is that all the way to ignition, Accessory, etc?? Not sure what I am doing wrong

Programing the GM Key Fobs worked, I had asked the Chevy dealer how much to reprogram my key fob, they told me $50.00, because I had to have the chip rescanned, They must think everyone is stupid, there is nothing in the fob to hook up to to rescan. So I found your instructions and It worked fine on our 2001 Chevy Blazer. Thanks guys. I really don’t like being lied to….

This worked on a 99 olds. You don’t get the queues (doors locking/unlocking) till you’re done. Then it honks once for you to let you know it worked.
