I did not want to tell anyone this, but this season means more to me than some people think. This is the first and final year I will be able to watch all the Chicago Bears games with my family. I decided that my marriage was way too important. Heather and I are not having problems, but we need to start working on our family. I will still watch the all the games, but most of them will be watched in Galesburg.
I have watched all but 2 games in Kewanee. Game 1 was the Monday Night Massacre against Arizona and Game 2 was against the Vikings Week 13. The rest of the games have been watched at my parents place in Kewanee, IL.
I bet you are thinking, “What a dumbass fan! It’s not like YOU have any impact on games.” Let me finish the damn back story DOUCHE BAG. We all brought together by one thing: the Kewanee Sports League. What is the Kewanee Sports League? The KSL is the fantasy sports league we play in every week. There are 8 members in the 2006 season and 6 are Bears fans. We also have 1 Chiefs fan and 1 Bucs fan. We talk lots of smack and we all get along on and off the playing field. I cannot think of a better group of guys that always can say something to make me laugh when I am sad.
For 20+ weeks a year and 14+ podcasts per year, we are playing fantasy football. Starting this year, we started watching all the games at the Hughes Household (My parents Russ and Chris). Also both of the playoff games have been watched at the Hughes Household. Every game that Doug has worn “the pants”, the Chicago Bears have won. There was a game were my good friend David Pate was there and they lost. Dave is banned from watching games for the rest of the 2006 season. He watched the first half of the Arizona Cardinal’s game… Need I say more? Just kidding Dave; but seriously.
So who has been there? ALL Chicago Bears fans. Here is a list of people who have been there for games:
Andrew Hughes
Aaron Hughes
Russ Hughes III
Mike Smith
Brian Schoutteet
Doug Hahn (with his pants!)
Joe Snider
David Pate
Blake Clayton
Kevin Smith
Kerry Savonski
Ty Palmer
Charlie Harker
Mike (Blake’s Friend)
John Oberg
This season has been very special for most of the people on the list. It will be there year they remember watching games at the Hughes Household. I can always look back this year and think of the fun times we’ve had. I know Blake and his friend Mike will never forget the NFC Championship game in Kewanee, IL. At first, I thought Mike would think we were all idiots. NOPE! He joined in with us after 10 minutes.
Everyone who has been by the Hughes Household has an experience they will never forget. I cannot wait to do the season ending podcast Thursday. It will be a hard one to do. So many memories and so little time. The only thing that would make this season unforgettable would be a Super Bowl win! This year’s party will be off location… Some people would think that this is dumb, due to our winning streak, but I feel good right now. And the Kewanee Sports League feels good also. Blake knows he will be number one on my speed dial. I, of course, will dodge all of Kevin Smith’s phone calls.
No matter what happens now, this will be the first year I will miss. I cannot wait the 4 months before the preparation starts for the 2007 season. There is not a better group of guys than the Kewanee Sports League guys.
Go Chicago Bears!!! Let’s cap it off with a SUPER BOWL XLI WIN!!!
Andrew
