Live White, Discussion

November 7, 2024 By Andrew Hughes Leave a Comment

I talk of freedom, you talk of the flag
I talk of revolution, you’d much rather brag
And as the decibels of this disenchanting discourse
Continue to dampen the day
The coin flips again and again and again and again
As our sanity walks away
All this discussion, though politically correct
Is dead beyond destruction, though it leaves me quite erect
And as the final sunset rolls behind the Earth
And the clock is finally dead
I’ll look at you, you’ll look at me and we’ll cry a lot
But this will be what we said
This will be what we said

Look where all this talking got us, baby
Look where all this talking got us, baby
Look where all this talking got us, baby
Look where all this talking got us, baby
Talk on

I warned you, I prepared you
I instructed you, I told you what to expect
All the time been feeding, what have you got?

Look where all this talking got us, baby
Look where all this talking got us, baby
Look where all this talking got us, baby
Look where all this talking got us, baby

36 Crazyfists – At the End of August

March 24, 2022 By Andrew Hughes Leave a Comment

So I lit lanterns to light up all these words
Looking back I know it’s what I’d die for
And through all this life
Smashed away all the strife
A friendship I paint
Untouchable

Crawling from the floor
I been there before
There I was staring back at the bottom
And let’s make this clear
It came from these tears
Carved across our chests
Loyalty

And with the new light there was young hope
To underline the meaning
And carve our names in

At the end of August
The end of
At the end of August
The end of

I’ll never replace the ones I first made
Jesus, does anyone?

So I lit lanterns to
Light up all these words
Looking back I know it’s what I’d die for
And through all this life
Smashed away all the strife
A friendship I paint
Untouchable

And with the new light there was young hope
To underline the meaning
And carve our names in

At the end of August
The end of
At the end of August
The end of

I’ll never replace the ones I first made
Jesus, does anyone?

Crawling from the floor
I been there before
And let’s make this clear
Loyalty

And I want you to know
How all of you made me
How all of you saved me
And I’ll never replace
The ones I first made
Jesus, does anyone?

At the end of August
The end of
At the end of August
The end of

I’ll never replace the ones I first made
Jesus, does anyone?

New Site design?

August 12, 2017 By Andrew Hughes Leave a Comment

Finally after four years, I redesigned my weak blog. I have a few kinks to fix, but that will have to wait until after I finish this term at Kaplan. So around The 17th or August 2017, the new design should be live. As a side note, Purdue bought Kaplan. So my Cyber Security degree will look even better in a few months~!

UPDATE –

I FINALLY got around to fix the issues with the design layout. It is not perfect, but the new design is LIVE~!

Chevelle “The Clincher”

July 11, 2017 By Andrew Hughes Leave a Comment

Touch
I’ll stand for nothing less
Or never stand again
These are the limits when one’s buried

This body’s left the soul
Could we have known
Never would I, helped to nail down
Careful of drifting off

Now losing taste and touch
Turning a pale blue leaning in to say
This body’s left the soul
The brain needs oxygen

Can’t sneak around this bait
His catacomb has got me by the chin
This body’s left the soul

Could we have known
Never would I, helped to nail down
With nothing to gain
Here’s the clincher, this should be you

Now saturate
Now saturate
Now saturate
Now saturate
And touch

Now saturate
Now saturate
Now saturate
The earth

Now saturate
Now saturate
Now saturate
The earth

Could we have known
Never would I, helped to nail down
With nothing to gain
Here’s the clincher, this should be you

This happened to be never changing
Holding inside,
The phobia made cold and crippled, ending it all

Now saturate
Now saturate
Now saturate
Now saturate
The earth

Now saturate
Now saturate
Now saturate

Bridge the Gap (IT190 Unit 3 Assignment)

June 27, 2017 By Andrew Hughes Leave a Comment

During my time as a computer user from 1996, I have used almost every web browser to this date. Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator were the two big web browsers. From my experience, Navigator ran way faster than Microsoft’s Internet Explorer. Once Navigator was purchased by AOL in 1998, I noticed a lack of updates over the next 4 years. Around 2002, Mozilla’s Firefox was released (Wkipedia, 2017). Finally, there was a web browser that worked again. In 2008, Google got into the browser game. In 2009, I started to use Google Chrome and abandoned Mozilla’s Firefox and Microsoft’s Internet Explorer. Another web browser to hit the market from 2003 was Apple’s Safari. I only used Safari during their 2007-2012 run on Windows (Wikipedia, 2017).  For more information about the history of web browsers, goto: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_web_browser.

Over the years, there have been multiple ways of communication.  Social networking, Email, Wikis and Blogs, Podcasts and Webcasts, and Streaming Media are all examples of the innovative ways we now communicate. Socials Networking are sites like Twitter, Facebook, Google Plus, Instagram, and MySpace. Of the five mentioned Social Networks, each are different in their own ways. Twitter is mostly used as a microblogging format. Twitter gives out information immediately. Facebook is meant for people to share photos, but it started out as a way for people to meet their fellow classmates. Google Plus and MySpace are a combination of both Twitter and Facebook. Instagram started out as a way to post pictures, but evolved into a short video and pictures. Instagram was purchased by Facebook in 2012 (Rusli, 2012)  Email started between 1990 and 1995 (Moore, 2014). This became a way for people to send letter electronically. Wikis and Blogs are also ways to communicate. Wikis are websites that can be edited by visitors. Blogs, also known as web logs, are a more of a journalist sites. In other words, users cannot edit the post only the author of the post. Podcasts and Webcasts are audio or video forms of communication. Podcasts are only audio, but Webcasts, also known as Vidcasts, are video only. Webcasters are mostly known as Youtubers these days. Streaming Media examples are Spotify and Amazon Music. Both are great services, but I personally use Amazon Music with my Amazon Prime membership. Mobile Commerce and Electronic Commerce have changed the ways we all shop online (Jen, 2017). Mobile Commerce, also known as M-Commerce, is a service in which the consumer purchases products with their mobile device. Electronic Commerce, also known as E-Commerce, is a service where the consumer purchases products on the internet with their computer.  A great site to check out for more information is https://www.simicart.com/blog/differences-between-e-commerce-and-m-commerce/.

Green Day “Still Breathing”

May 7, 2017 By Andrew Hughes Leave a Comment

I’m like a child looking off in the horizon
I’m like an ambulance that’s turning on the sirens
Oh, I’m still alive
I’m like a soldier coming home for the first time
I dodged a bullet and I walked across a landmine
Oh, I’m still alive

Am I bleeding?
Am I bleeding from the storm?
Just shine a light into the wreckage
So far away, away

‘Cause I’m still breathing
‘Cause I’m still breathing on my own
My head’s above the rain and roses
Making my way away
‘Cause I’m still breathing
‘Cause I’m still breathing on my own
My head’s above the rain and roses
Making my way away
My way to you

I’m like a junkie tying off for the last time
I’m like a loser that’s betting on his last dime
Oh, I’m still alive
I’m like a son that was raised without a father
I’m like a mother barely keeping it together
Oh, I’m still alive

Am I bleeding?
Am I bleeding from the storm?
Just shine a light into the wreckage
So far away, away

‘Cause I’m still breathing
‘Cause I’m still breathing on my own
My head’s above the rain and roses
Making my way away
‘Cause I’m still breathing
‘Cause I’m still breathing on my own
My head’s above the rain and roses
Making my way, away, away…

As I walked out on the ledge
Are you scared to death to live?
I’ve been running all my life
Just to find a home that’s for the restless
And the truth that’s in the message
Making my way, away, away

‘Cause I’m still breathing
‘Cause I’m still breathing on my own
My head’s above the rain and roses
Making my way away
‘Cause I’m still breathing
‘Cause I’m still breathing on my own
My head’s above the rain and roses
Making my way, away
‘Cause I’m still breathing (My way to you)
‘Cause I’m still breathing on my own (My way to you)
My head’s above the rain and roses
Making my way, away
My way to you

Chevelle – “Take Out the Gunman”

July 16, 2016 By Andrew Hughes Leave a Comment

Chevelle’s “Take Out the Gunman” is from their album La Gárgola which was released on April 1st, 2014.  The single was released on February 3rd, 2014.  The lyrics are really powerful.

Awoke when the light
Hit me right in the temple
Felt something cold
Touch my toes as it passed

Might not be the face you’d expect
But he’s clearly insane
Got me pegged in the back

Just need a bit of luck
Get ’em up
Point the gun at the eyes
Or at the knees, had to shoot, had to fight
Gonna take out the gunman

Bit of luck
Get ’em up
Made to run for our lives
Take out the knees, had to choose, had to fight
Gonna take out the gunman

Eyes huge, so little left if something
Cracks and clues, he’s crazy as a straw
Why denied, does no one care or nothing?
How, you ask, I ever last so long

Cuz I, I went blind, a blinding riot
He’s regretting every word
Those empty lies
One more tonight, a blinding riot
As I summon every nerve

Just need a bit of luck
Get ’em up
Point the gun at the eyes
Or at the knees, had to shoot, had to fight
Gonna take out the gunman

Bit of luck
Get ’em up
Made to run for our lives
Take out the knees, had to choose, had to fight
Gonna take out the gunman
Gonna take out the gunman
Gonna take out the gunman

Gonna take out
Gonna take out
Gonna take out
Gonna take out

Just need a bit of luck
Get ’em up
Point the gun at the eyes
Or at the knees, had to shoot, had to fight
Gonna take out the gunman

Bit of luck
Get ’em up
Made to run for our lives
I’m so amazed at the way we televise
Gonna take out the gunman
Gonna take out the gunman
Gonna take out the gunman
Gonna take out the gunman

Grandstream GXP2140 and more

July 14, 2016 By Andrew Hughes Leave a Comment

Here is an issue I ran into using my Grandstream GXP2140.  I used the “Otherwise” and that fixed the “ghost” calls.

Grandstream Devices:

The options available will depend on the model of your phone.

Under Settings -> Advanced Settings check for an option to “Disable Direct IP Calls”
Under Profile/Account set Check SIP User ID for incoming INVITE to Yes.
Otherwise please open Account x -> SIP Settings -> Security Settings and set the option Accept Incoming SIP from Proxy Only to Yes.

WWE Talent Salaries from 2012

July 14, 2016 By Andrew Hughes Leave a Comment

This should make for some interesting Saturday night reading. This was posted on the Wrestling Observer Message Board. It’s the current contract and salary info for most active members of the WWE roster. Some are expected and some are pretty shocking (Khali being one). Let us know what you think of this:

This article was orginally posted on http://www.ringsideaction.com/2012/10/wwe-talent-salaries/.  When I the website went down, I wanted the article to live forever on my blog.  Enjoy!

These figures are rounded up from the original figures we received. These figures do not include, PPV or appearance bonuses, nor do they include the merchandise cut that each performer receives. Some performers receive an additional percentage added to their merchandise cut, if they are a high merchandise seller, and these are noted.

Note 1: It would appear that WWE’s standard contract lengths are 1 year, 3 year, 5 year, 7 year and 10 year.
Note 2: Some performers are offered a higher merchandise royalties percentage for taking a smaller downside. These figures were not made available to us.
Note 3: The executive office and “legends” contracts were not made available to us. These contracts operate on a different system entirely.
Note 4: The Undertaker is believed to be on a per-appearance contract, in which he is paid an agreed upon rate (a long with the typical PPV bonus if he wrestlers) for each appearance he makes for the company. Undertaker of course, still receives his merchandise royalties, etc, but isn’t on a downside contract. Undertaker is not on a legends contact, which means he cannot make appearances for independent promotions.

Male Wrestlers

Alberto Del Rio: $675,000 downside/first class travel – 3 year contract
Big Show: $1,050,000 downside/allocated a personal touring bus/first class travel arrangements paid for, when bus travel is not an option – 10 year contract

Why it is hard to leave my family behind

November 2, 2015 By Andrew Hughes Leave a Comment

I once left my wife and daughter by themselves for 2 full days. Left on a Thursday and returned on a Sunday. It was 2 really hard days. On Wednesday, I left for Seattle and I will not return until Monday. This will be 4 full days away from them, plus our son. I will try to enjoy myself. I look forward to seeing them soon. I had a good talk with Heather. I have been just there while she does all the work plus her job plus her schooling. Until she pointed out my issues, I did not see it. I will do more to make her happy and put our little family first before work and play. I know it will be a tough adjustment for me. I k
now it will take a few weeks. I know now I NEED to do this. I will enjoy hanging out in Seattle and I will have fun, but Monday cannot come soon enough.

Network Disabled because the Internet Connection is Slow Error

Network Disabled because the Internet Connection is Slow Error

For the last few weeks since my update to 4.3 on my Galaxy S4,  I have been receiving the following error: Network Disabled because the Internet Connection is Slow.

This error has been driving me nuts and I FINALLY figured out how to fix this error. I will go through the step by step procedure with screenshots.

2014-01-14 17.08.21 2014-01-14 17.08.35 2014-01-14 17.09.26

First off, go to your Wi-Fi settings.  At the Wi-Fi page, press the menu button and click on the advance tab.  Scroll down until you see “Always allow scanning” and “Auto network switch”.  In my case, the boxes were checked.  Make sure the boxes are unchecked.  Now this issue is fixed!!!  Any questions?

A Little something about Foo Fighter’s Everlong

October 7, 2013 By Andrew Hughes 1 Comment

Today’s date is October 7th, 2013. Today is the date that I realized “Everlong” can tear me up every time I hear the song.

16 Years I bought Foo Fighter’s 2nd studio album entitled “The Colour and the Shape”. I had been a fan of Nirvana and I also liked Foo Fighter’s first self-titled album. Since CD’s were the “cool” thing to do, I had to purchase the album. I still remember buying the CD on a Saturday in Moline, IL at Best Buy. “Monkey Wrench” was and still is a great song to listen to and I dug the ending screaming portion of the song. I assumed the song was about a bad breakup and you are the source of the bad in the relationship. On the way back from Best Buy, I listened to “Everlong”. At first I did not know what to think, but I had to listen to it again and again three more times. I just liked this song.

Later 1997, Foo Fighters released the video for “Everlong”. Talk about an AWESOME video!!! The dream sequence that leads to the Foo Fighters to playing the last chorus one more, the oversized telephone, and the oversized hand. Such a great video. I listened to “Everlong” 3-4 times a week, to once a month, to once a year, to forgetting about the song.

In November 2008, Dave Grohl played the acoustic version of “Everlong” on Howard Stern. I did not hear this version until late 2010. Once I listened to the acoustic version, I forgot how powerful that song is. I found myself humming the tune in my head over the next few weeks. Around the middle of 2011, I saw the Foo Fighters were playing music from “Skin and Bones” on the channel “Palladia”. I only heard “Cold Day in the Sun” from the “Skin and Bines” album. (By the way, the live version of Cold Day in the Sun is WAY better live than the studio version.) I was in for a big surprise. After smoking a nickel bag of weed, I watched the whole show. I did not expect to hear or see the final song. “Everlong” played and I could not tell if it was the weed or the song, but I it made me sad and happy at the same time. The next 3 days I kept listening and watching the show. The results were the same; sad and happy. I told myself I would not forget about the feeling of this great song.

So it is a Monday in October and I realize I forgot about “Everlong”. Each time I forgot about such a LEGENDARY song, it is like hearing it for the very first time. I thought about creating a reminder to listen to it once a month, but instead I put it on my workout mix and I will listen to it 3-4 times a week.

If you remember this song, please take a listen to it. Here are the videos:
